Recovery & account safety

Veridenti is zero-knowledge, so only you can unlock your vault. That makes a few habits important.

Your recovery key

When you turn on Cloud Sync and create an account, Veridenti gives you a 12-word recovery key — your backstop if you forget your master password. Save it right away: click Copy words, or Download PDF for a printable, branded Recovery Kit. Store it offline and separate from your devices (a printed copy in a safe).

WarningIf you lose both your master password and your recovery key, your vault cannot be recovered — by anyone, including Veridenti. That's the flip side of true zero-knowledge. A local-only vault (no Cloud Sync) has no recovery key, so its master password is the only way in — turn on Cloud Sync to get one.

Good habits

What if my device is lost or stolen?

Sign in on a new device with your account email + master password (or your recovery key if you've forgotten the password); your vault restores from ciphertext. Then, from any device, sign the lost one out — see Manage your devices.

Work accounts

If your access is through your employer's single sign-on and you can't get in, it's almost always resolved on the identity-provider side — contact your IT admin. Your organization may also have its own recovery controls.
